چکیده

Abstract Background The plant Hymenocardia acida (Euphorbiaceae) is utilized as herbal preparation against diarrhoea, dysentery and other diseases. We aimed to determine the antidiarrhoeal potentials of (MEHA) stem bark in vivo vitro. Preliminary phytochemical contents, well acute toxicity effect extract, were investigated based on standard experimental methods. properties MEHA at 150, 300 600 mg/kg studied diarrhoea induced by castor oil, intestinal fluid accumulation, movement tests using distilled water (10 ml/kg) loperamide/atropine sulphate control groups. Besides, vitro effects extract (8 × 10 −2 –640 mg/ml) rabbit jejunum guinea-pig ileum evaluated. Results Phytochemical screening showed alkaloids, glycoside, saponins, tannins, triterpenes, flavonoids steroids MEHA. median lethal dose (LD 50 ) after oral administration was approximately greater than 2000 mg/kg. declined onset remarkably decreased number watery stools group that received It also elicited a remarkable non-dose-dependent reduction volume. At 1000 mg/kg, significantly inhibited charcoal movement. In addition, decrease contractility over time relaxed guinea pig ileum. it concentration-dependent attenuation acetylcholine histamine-induced contraction. Conclusion under investigation revealed promising justified its traditional claim for use diarrhoea.

BACKGROUND Hymenocardia acida is traditionally used in African herbal medicine and has numerous therapeutic benefits. But little is known about its potentially negative effects on pregnant women. OBJECTIVE The aim of the present study was to evaluate the antifertility effect of aqueous ethanolic extract of Hymenocardia acida stem bark in female Wistar rats. MATERIALS AND METHODS Four groups...

Anti-diabetic activities of the methanol leaf extracts of Hymenocardia acida (tul.) in alloxan-induced diabetic rats.

The effect of methanolic extract of Hymenocardia acida leaves on diabetes and associated lipidemia were investigated on experimentally-induced diabetic rats. The extract did not demonstrate any acutely toxic effect in rats within the dose range (250 mg/kg - 2000 mg/kg) employed in the study; hence it was well tolerated by the rats. In all experiments, the anti-diabetic effects were dose-depende...

Antidiarrhoeal activity of the methanol stem-bark extract of Annona senegalensis Pers. (Annonaceae).

AIM OF THE STUDY To investigate the antidiarrhoeal properties of the stem-bark extract of Annona senegalensis, using both in vivo and in vitro models. MATERIALS AND METHODS Swiss albino mice were used to investigate the acute oral toxicity of the extract. The extract was administered orally to mice fed with charcoal meal in order to investigate intestinal transit time. The effect of the extra...
